Richard has worked as a professional nature photographer since 1995. He has a BSc Honours degree in Entomology and Zoology from the University of Natal and lives in Sandton, South Africa.
Richard travels extensively in southern Africa and Kenya to photograph wild animals and wilderness landscapes. During the past five years he has done over 250 hours of aerial photography.
Richard’s images have appeared in National Geographic, BBC Wildlife and Nature's Best magazines. In the 1995 BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition he won first place in the Mammal Behaviour category and in 1997 won the Portraits category. He was one of the judges for the competition in 2004. In the 2007 Nature’s Best Photography International Awards competition he won the overall Grand Prize with his aerial image of Zebra in the Makgadikgadi. Richard was one of 40 photographers featured in the book The World’s Top Wildlife Photographers by Terry Hope.
Richard has a photographic library of over 25 000 wildlife and landscape images from South Africa, Botswana, Namibia and Kenya. It includes a comprehensive selection of aerial images of these regions, including urban and suburban South Africa.
His images are represented by Gallo Images in South Africa, the Nature Picture Library in the UK and Minden Pictures in the USA.
Richard uses Canon 35 mm digital cameras together with a variety of Canon L lenses.
Several of Richard’s favorite photographs are available as signed, limited edition, Fine Art Prints.
Each Fine Art Print is individually labeled, signed and numbered.
